The Design Process

We plan for and recommend a natural approach and sustainable practices to encourage a healthy environment not only for the plants, but for family members, pets and urban wildlife.

Our designs are created with more that one season in mind. Watch your garden transition gracefully from season to season. We carefully choose plantings that provide all-season interest and color.

• The Initial Meeting
  This takes place at your home. We’ll walk through the site to get a good feel for the place. At this time we’ll talk about the needs and expectations you have for your upcoming project. This arena opens discussion for possibilities and realities. This is a good time to bring out examples of garden elements, such as plants, rock walls and water features that appeal to you. This gives me a better feel for your preferences and personal style. It’s important to come to this meeting with a good idea of what’s most important to you.

From the meeting I’ll develop a proposal fitting your goals and budget. The fee for this meeting is $90, including the written proposal. The fee will be deducted from the overall design cost upon agreement of proposal.

• Site Analysis
  A base map, to scale, is created on site includes measuring while noting existing plants and hardscape, microclimates, soil and drainage, views to emphasize and areas that need screening. Photos are taken at this time.

• Preliminary Plan
  The preliminary plan is a conceptual piece drawn to scale. This includes existing elements that are not changing, circulation, screening, paths, patios, decks and establishes how it flows together. I’ll bring sketches to help with visualization from a person’s view. Changes and adjustments can take place through this stage until we’ve met or have gone beyond your expectations.

• The Final Plan
  You’ll receive 3 black line copies of the finalized plan complete with planting plan, plant list, plant care guide, support sketches and photo vignettes of suggested plantings. I can also provide recommended contractors for installation at this time.

• Post Design Support
  I am available to answer your questions that may come to surface during the construction phase of your project. There may be times when the installer needs to make an adjustment to the plan due to unexpected events. The designer can be brought in to see that the integrity of the design is honored. I am also available for plant placement. This is billed separately from the design plan for a fee of $60.00/hr
